Royal Selangor was founded by an inspiring young pewtersmith named Yong Koon. Yong Koon arrived in Malaya in 1885 from the Chinese port of Shantou. Equipped only with a set of tools, a will to succeed and a strong belief in
fine craftsmanship, Yong Koon laid the foundations of the company we now know as of Royal Selangor.
 
He would certainly be proud today to see how the business has grown, for over 1.5 million pieces of Royal Selangor pewter, each in the distinctive blue "lapis lazuli" packaging now leave the 12-acre factory site in Kuala Lumpur each year.  Crafted by over 700 skilled pewtersmiths with the same meticulous attention to detail exercised by the masters of old, the products are shipped to more than 20 countries around the world.  
 
Royal Selangor is now the world's largest pewter manufacturer, with offices in the UK, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, China, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and the USA. The company has a range of more than 1,000 gift and tableware items, the majority made from pewter, a 'green' non-toxic metal known for its malleability and versatility.
